SALINAS, Calif. - Salinas Police arrested two men for being drunk in public, then threatening fight and kill the responding officers. Police got the call Tuesday evening, reporting an intoxicated individual causing a disturbance near the Steinbeck library on Lincoln Avenue.
Gregory Hickson was identified as the person causing the problem. Hickson was immediately belligerent to the officers and took a fighting stance towards them. Police said Hickson showed "obvious signs of intoxication."
Hickson was arrested without incident but his friend who was also present tried to intervene in Hickson's arrest. Jerry Stephens was also arrested for public intoxication.
Both suspects were being transported to jail and Hickson continued to be belligerent and at one point threatened to kill the officer transporting them to jail.
Stephens and Hickson were booked into county jail on charges of Threats to an Officer, Public Intoxication and Violation of Parole.
