AUSTIN, Texas - Lance Armstrong has stepped down from the chairman of his charity, Livestrong, which was created as an organization to battle cancer. Armstrong overcame testicular cancer that spread to his lungs and still won the most famous cycling race in the sport.
According to FOX news, Armstrong said Wednesday its a move so the group can focus on its mission instead of the problems of a founder.
The resignation comes in the middle of a doping scandal surrounding Armstrong. He will remain on the charity's board but duties as a chairman have been turned over to vice chairman, Jeff Garvey. Garvey has been with the organization since 1997.
Armstrong has been accused of doping during his dominance in the world of cycling. Last week, the U.S. anti-doping agency released a report with the allegations from teammates and others during Armstrong's seven straight Tour de France titles.
FOX news reports the purpose of the documents were to explain why the USADA banned Armstrong from the sport for life and stripped him of all titles and records during his 14 year career.
Although the scandal investigation is still ongoing, Armstrong withdrew arguments towards the USADA reports and said the process is unfair.
