Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif- A thief has made off with the headstone of fallen California Highway Patrol Officer John Pedro.

A person visiting a loved one at the Santa Cruz Cemetery noticed the missing headstone Sunday morning and reported it to authorities.

The missing headstone weighs anywhere from 150 to 200 pounds said the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department.

In an interview with the Watsonville Patch CHP Officer Sarah Jackson said, " It's disgusting. I can't believe anyone would do this."

Officer Pedro died 10 years ago during a high speed pursuit, click here to read more about his End of Watch.

This is not the first time that a memorial for Officer Pedro has been vandalized. An article from the Watsonville Patch details those cases of vandalism.

The CHP is taking donations to replace the headstone. If you are interested you can make a donation at any branch of Bay Federal Credit Union using the Officer Pedro Memorial Fund or stop by the Aptos CHP Office.
