HOLLISTER, Calif. - Real men wear pink was the motto at one high school football game on the Central Coast. Hollister hosted the first ever Tackle for a Cure against the Salinas Cowboys.
"I have a vision of being able to look up to the stands and see the whole crowd in pink and being there to support breast cancer awareness," said Mary Andrade, event director for Hope for a Cure.
The Hope for a Cure Foundation gives a scholarship to students who have lost a loved one to the disease.
Britney Vandenberg was one of those students.
"It helped me in school at Fresno State, it jump started me in my education," said Vandenberg.
She and her younger sister, Lauren, lost their mom to breast cancer.
"When I lost my mom to breast cancer, this community came around her," said as she held back her emotion.
The city came out to show their support, as well.
"So its been fabulous, the community has always been supportive of the cause," Jeanine Divincenzo, co-founder, said.
Haybaler senior, known as Honey Badger Junior, said he expects his teams to handle the pressure.
"This will be kind of like a motivation and bond together as a team," said the senior.
But for the Cowboys.
"I think its going to be a really good night, we don't really do a lot of pink," Kyle Salao said.
