WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- "I'm relocating my family for the time being. I'm staying here, I'm not running away," said Paul Gutierrez.
It has been Gutierrez's motto since the beginning of "Take Back Watsonville," and it is still his motto after his house became a target this morning.
"I heard it, just how it hit the glass and then hit the floor, it sounded like a gun shot coming through. I grabbed my girlfriend, picked her up and put her in the closet. Then when I came out of the bedroom the second rock came through the window," said Gutierrez.
Gutierrez went outside to try to catch the culprit, but they ran off. Neighborhood security cameras caught the whole thing on tape. But because neighbors fear retaliation, they choose not to release the video. The video shows the man throw the rocks the home and run down an alley across the street.
"Rocks turn to bullets eventually," said Gutierrez.
Even with that in mind, Gutierrez is standing his ground. Police are standing right there with him, too. Police have increased car patrols down the neighborhood. Gutierrez says that this is just the beginning, and he says its the support from the community that gives him the momentum to fight back.
"I have almost 300 people that look up to me to provide the safety and not back down. If I back down, I'm nobody. I need to be somebody that stands up. If I'm running, its running after them, not running away," said Gutierrez.
