CALIFORNIA- When was the last time you saw a gray wolf wandering around your neck of the woods?

Chances are you probably have not so maybe state wildlife officials have a good argument that the gray wolf should be placed on the endangered species list.

On Wednesday, the California Fish and Game Commission determined that listing the gray wolf as an endangered species in the state may be warranted

This decision will now lead to a status review to be performed over the course of the next 12 months, after which the Commission could determine the wolf should be listed as an endangered species.

According to the Department of Fish and Game, there has never been a scientific study of wolves in California and some wildlife officials believe that the wolf may have widely populated California before they were killed off by humans in the early 20th Century.
