Bikes Worth Thousands Stolen From Pebble Beach Neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- After you've lived in a neighborhood for awhile, there are times that you let your guard down. Maybe you don't close your garage door, or don't lock your front door or car.

But right now that is making some people on the Central Coast perfect target for thieves. Jack McKenea lives in Pebble Beach and he's learned that the hard way, after McKenea left his garage side door unlocked.

"I walked out to my garage Saturday morning and this car door was open and when I looked over there, both my bikes were gone," said McKenea.

Bikes that are going to cost him thousands to replace.

"We just never expected that there would be any kind of problem with leaving garage doors open or house door or anything else," said McKenea.

Neither did Conner Mcaweeney's family. They said they are pretty good with leaving their garage door closed but when they didn't they also had a very expensive bike stolen from them as well.

Deputies say that's the mistake, and right now no neighborhood is an exception to theft. In this Pebble Beach community alone there have been 12 thefts in just 2 weeks.

In the past month, the Central Coast has had over 200 break-ins. What's more, victims will most likely never see the stolen stuff.

For McKenea, who's already installed motion sensor lights all around his house, having your home broken into is the hardest part.

"You really feel like you've been violated," said McKenea.
