MONTEREY, Calif. - The train has sat at the front of Dennis the Menace Park in downtown Monterey since 1956. Before this year, children of all ages were able to climb aboard the locomotive, but earlier this year that all changed.

Due to state laws involving parks in California, the city of Monterey was forced to block off the train. New laws made this attraction a hazard and not appropriate playground material.

With the new steps, people in the community have spoken out their concerns with the fence and even the possibility of moving the train.

Tonight, city council will hear from the parks department and people in the community about the plans. City officials from the parks department say their goal is to work with the community to find a solution that pleases everyone, but its important to remember they must follow the state law.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Few Memorial Hall at City Hall in downtown Monterey.
