No Injuries After Amtrak Train Collides with Big Rig Truck, North of King City

Posted: Updated:

NORTH OF KING CITY, Calif- Dozens of people are considered lucky to have no injuries after an Amtrak train collided with a big rig truck, just north of King City.

California Highway Patrol officials say the accident happened around 3:15 p.m. on the Metz Road railroad crossing.

That's where they say a big rig driver turned onto the railroad crossing just as an Amtrak train approached from behind.

The train struck the front right corner of the big rig truck, causing major damage to the truck and front portion of the Amtrak train.

Amtrak made travel arrangement changes for 150 passengers on the train, which was heading northbound up the coast from San Luis Obispo County.

No arrests were made from the accident, CHP says the big rig driver made a simple mistake.

Firefighters were called out to the scene to remove soil that had been contaminated with diesel fuel but there were no fires or spark ups from that fuel.
