Carmel Valley, Calif. A witness is being called a hero after a car slams into a Carmel Valley market Friday afternoon.
An
80 year-old-woman escapes from the car, uninjured and the nearby
witness steps up, jumps in, and stops the car from going further into
the building.
David Bryant said "it was like kind of surreal". He was grabbing some lunch when he saw the accident.
"I
saw the car pulling in so I kind of stopped and then it kind of went up
on a curb and it lunged forward you know really fast onto the store."
Bryant
said was on the sidewalk near the market when the car lunged between
the parking space and the store. He jumped in to help "so I ran over,
opened the door, put the car in park and put the hand break on and took
the key out and stopped the car from moving."
Police say the woman accidentally hit the gas instead of the break hitting the Carmel Valley Market on Chambers Lane.
The
driver told Central Coast News that she was grateful for what Bryant
did. Bryant said it was a just a natural reaction "this is the first
accident I've actually seen in front of me."
The inciden remains under investigation. Officers will look into the driver's record.
