SOLEDAD, Calif. -- Two people are dead and one man is in critical condition after a shooting Wednesday night in the parking lot of the Food Co. grocery store.
Soledad Police say the victims had just finished grocery shopping at the grocery store, walked out to their vehicle and were seated inside when a lone gunman approached the vehicle and fired multiple shots.
When fire and paramedics arrived on scene, they say they immediately began CPR on the first victim, 55-year old Maria Del Refugio Monroy. She was later pronounced dead at the scene. CPR was also initiated on 58-year old Silverio Perez Selendon, who was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. And the third victim, a 19-year old Hispanic male was transported to a hospital where he immediately underwent surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition.
Witnesses told Central Coast News that a fourth person was in the car, the daughter of one of the victims. She saw when the suspect came and shot into the car but was not hit. Police have not confirmed this yet.
Police are looking for a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt who was seen jumping into a light colored, 4-door Volkswagen Jetta. At this time the motive is unknown. Police say although one of the victims is a known gang associate, it is unknown is he is still an active member.
