Salinas City Council Approves Settlement in Sex Abuse Scandal

SALINAS, Calif- In a closed session, the Salinas City Council approved a settlement late Tuesday night in a case stemming from a sex abuse scandal involving the Salinas Police Explorers Program.

Pending Court approval, the City would pay $110,000 to the plaintiff.  It will also release the City from liability.

There are two girls in two separate cases who alleged they were victims of sexual misconduct by Callan.

The second case, where the girl claimed she had sexual contact with and was sexually abused by Callan in 2009 and 2010, was the case the city settled.

Callan was in charge of running the program.

The City may still pursue Scott Callan for reimbursement of amounts expended in settlement.
