SACRAMENTO--Domestic workers deliver 25,000 support signatures to Gov. Jerry Brown.
More than 200 hundred domestic workers rallied on the west steps of the Capitol in an effort to urge Governor Brown to sign what they're calling domestic workers' bill of rights.
Proponents say would extend overtime pay and meal and rest breaks to the domestic workforce.
In 2001, Wage Order 15 was put into effect by California's Department of Industrial Relations to regulate wages, hours and working conditions in household occupations.
Domestic workers hired as "personal attendants" are exempt from the order.
According to the state, personal attendants are any persons employed by a private householder or third party hired to supervise, feed, or dress a child or a person who by reason of advanced age or disability who needs supervision.
Proponents of domestic workers bill of rights want all household workers to receive the same rights.
Governor Brown has 10 days left to sign the legislation.
