SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Governor Jerry Brown signed several bills into law this weekend, including measures that will improve access to contraceptives, increase pipeline safety and curb underage drinking on party buses.
Brown approved AB2348, which creates standard procedures so that nurse midwives, nurse practitioners and physician assistants may prescribe and dispense birth control pills. The bill is expected to improve access to contraceptives in rural areas of California, where it is more difficult to get to a doctor.
The governor also signed two bills by assemblyman Jerry Hill (D -San Mateo) aimed at strengthening natural-gas pipeline safety laws. This comes after the deadly Pacific Gas & Electric pipeline explosion in San Bruno two years ago.
And Governor Brown signed a bill that will crackdown on underage drinking in party buses. AB45 will make bus companies, drivers and chaperones responsible for underage drinking on the buses.
All laws will go into effect January 1st.
