Driver Hits Pedestrian, Light Pole and Fire Hydrant

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - A man is recovering from serious leg injuries after he was hit by an out-of-control driver early Friday morning.

It happened at 12:58 a.m. on Soquel Avenue at Trevethan Avenue.

Santa Cruz Fire responded to a report of a person struck by a vehicle. When crews arrived, they found a male in his 20's who had been hit by a car and thrown more than 20 feet by the collision.

He suffered moderate to severe lower extremity injuries and was flown to a trauma center.

The vehicle also struck a light pole and sheared off a fire hydrant causing significant damage.
