SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The man who accepted a plea deal in a high-profile murder case has changed his mind.
Gerald Galloway originally accepted a reduced manslaughter charge in the death of his girlfriend, Celestial Cassman. Now, Galloway says when he accepted that plea deal, he was on medication and felt pressured to comply with the plea.
Cassman, who worked as the Santa Cruz Deputy City Attorney, was found dead last year in Maui. The autopsy results revealed Cassman died from asphyxiation. According to Maui police, Cassman and Gerald Galaway got in a fight outside of their rental car on the highway near Nakalele Point on September 1, 2011. Cassman's body was found 100 feet from the highway.
Galloway was arrested by Maui Police on September 9, 2011.
He'll be back in court next week.
