GREENFIELD - New information on a shooting that happened on Chardonay Drive in Greenfield on Wednesday night.
Police said two boys were shot through a bedroom window last night, hitting them in the lower part of the body.
They're expected to be okay.
On Thursday, one juvenile was arrested.
Since at least July, the city of Greenfield has been talking about merging police services with the other three south county cities -- Gonzales, King City and Soledad.
With a $40,000 budget shortfall, Greenfield can't hold up the police department on its own.
"You have the flexibility of moving your resources from one city to another or if you had two cities involved, three or four, you have the ability to move people from all jurisdictions," said Eric Sills, police chief for Greenfield and Soledad.
Chief Sills said a four-city merger would have been useful in Wednesday night's shooting.
He had to call in resources the city didn't have on duty.
"If you had an incident like last night, one supervisor would be able to go ahead and take responsibility and handle that crime scene, and the other supervisor would now be able to take over supervision of all four cities," he said. "Whereas, last night, we didn't have the ability. I had to call people back, call a seargent back in for help and additional personnel, and it just delayed the process."
Chief Sills said with such short staff, the shooting investigation didn't go as quickly as it could have.
As for a merger, he said it's still under discussion, and if any changes do occur it probably won't happen for about a year or so.
