SALINAS - One of the candidates for Salinas mayor is stopped and cited for speeding and driving on a suspended license.
The Salinas mayoral candidate was pulled over this past weekend.
The spotlight is on Margaret Serna-Bonetti right now because she is candidate for mayor.
The ticket shows that Serna-Bonetti was going 52 miles an hour in a 35 mile-an-hour zone on Sherwood and Rossi.
It also notes she was driving on a suspended license.
She told Central Coast News she throught the zone was 45, but mentioned everyone makes mistakes and she shouldn't be treated any differently.
"People get tickets there everyday. It's not like I robbed a bank or shot someone," Serna-Bonetti said.
She also said she didn't know how long she was driving with a suspended license and it was an issue with her insurance company not giving information to the state; she said she's working this out.
On the ticket, the officer wrote that she said she "...thought there was bad blood and I explained there wasn't."
Serna-Bonetti did mention to Central Coast News she thought some people at the police department don't like her; it's not clear if the two are related.
