SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Construction is set to begin Tuesday morning in downtown Santa Cruz. The arena will be built at 140 Front St. between Downtown and the Beaches.
After several obstacles, Devcon Construction, out of San Jose, will begin break ground at 8 AM. Heavy equipment will be brought in to help break up the existing parking lot that sits at the location now.
Plans have shown the tent style arena will sit almost 3,000 fans and more for other events. The arena could hold conventions, concerts and other events, including basketball games.
The Santa Cruz Warriors, the D-leage affiliate to the Golden State Warriors, will play 24 home games during the season.
Construction is expected to be completed in time for the first home game on December 23.
According to the Warriors, the new arena will open up more than 100 jobs on game days. These jobs include personell, front office work, and traffic ambassadors to help fans.
