SALINAS - New information on a deadly shooting in the 700 block of Las Casitas on Saturday afternoon.
Central Coast News learned after two hours of searching, Salinas Police found a man dead inside a home.
While the area is known for gang violence, officers said it didn't play a role in this shooting.
"The window just shook," said Rebecca Cerpa, a neighbor who lives doors down from where the homicide happened. "It just shakes."
Cerpa was getting ready to give her 9-month-old baby girl a bath when she heard a big boom just doors down.
"I thought it was kind of like a firework," she said.
At least that's what some neighbors reported to police.
But when officers first went over to Las Casitas Drive, they looked around and didn't find anything.
"Roughly two hours later, we had an anonymous report that there had been a victim of a shooting inside a residence on Las Casitas," said Commander Dave Crabill of Salinas Police.
Investigators returned and looked through the windows of the home and saw a man slumped over on the living room floor.
When they knocked on the door and got no response, they forced their way in.
That's when they learned the man was riddled with bullets.
"You don't know if one of those shots could have hit straight over here. It's just two houses down. It's scary," Cerpa said.
Neighbors told Central Coast News the people who live inside of the home are fairly new neighbors and they constantly saw new people coming in and out of the house.
"The fact that I have a little girl it's scary for her to be raised in this neighborhood, but sometimes there's no other place to go," Cerpa said.
Salinas Police are still working on a motive for the shooting, but believe the shooting wasn't random.
The victim's identity is being witheld until his family is notified.
