SALINAS, Calif. - One man dead and another on the run tonight as police investigate a shooting that happened right in front of the Salvation Army on North Main in Salinas.
The victim has not been identified yet and officers are still investigating what happened.
"It's too early to tell if the shooting is gang related but it certainly has the hallmarks of a gang shooting," said Commander Dan Perez.
After shooting the victim in the back of the head, the suspect ran through the Salvation Army parking lot and down Bridge Alley right off North Main. That's where helpful witnesses lost sight of where the suspect ran.
Police evacuated all businesses in the area, including the gym Andrew Fuentes was working out in. Fuentes didn't hear the shooting but saw when police arrived and wasn't surprised with what happened.
"As bad as it is, you just got to get used to it. It doesn't get better so you got to get used to it," said Fuentes.
The suspect is identified as a adult Hispanic man. He is armed with a small handgun.
