Taking Down a Piece of Boardwalk History

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.- Officials with the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk have begun dismantling the "Hurricane" roller coaster.

All was quiet at the boardwalk when the deconstruction began last week, only the sound of machinery was at work instead of screaming kids or throngs of people waiting in line for the rides or the sinfully delicious food.

On Friday, boardwalk representatives snapped photos of the progress. They say its going to take months to take down the roller coaster completely.

It was a "hurricane" of a ride for 20 years. It's out with the old and in with the new. A new thrill is coming to town called "The Undertow."

The "Hurricane" will be shipped to an amusement park in New Mexico.
