SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- A surprising first day in court for Christopher Maffei, the man accused of hijacking a yacht while abducting two children that ended on the Central Coast.

The 43 year old was caught and arrested Friday night off the coast of Monterey.

Maffei surprised the court Monday with an outburst that the children were going back to a home where they were being abused.

The mother of the children denied the accusations.

A Judge increased Christopher Maffei's bail from $200,000 to $500,000 and continued the arraignment.

Maffei has yet to enter a plea to the charges against him.
