Family Evicted Has Lottery Money to Pay for Home; Bank Says No

Posted: Updated:

ROYAL OAKS, Calif. -- A family with a father facing kidney failure is forced out of their home. The family claims they have the money to pay off their foreclosed home with lottery winnings, but Wells Fargo says it's not going to be enough to keep their house.

Early Friday morning the sheriff's department came and told Brandie and Edwin Hannon they had to leave their home. A locksmith changed the locks so they can't get back in.

The Hannons are staying with relatives for now. Brandie Hannon says her husband won $4 million in a California lottery in the mid 90s. We aren't able to actually show you the ticket because its still locked up in the house.

Now a security team has been hired. They're staying on the property 24/7 to make sure no one comes here until this issue is resolved.

Brandie told Central Coast News they get the next lump sum of money in 2013. "There's going to be 3 payments over three years. It's a lot its more than what they paid for the house and it would nearly pay off what we owe," said Hannon.

All together its worth more than $500,000. She said that's enough to save her home. Wells Fargo knows about the lottery money coming in but says there's no chance for them to get their home back. They said in a statement "we hope to assist them with not only maintaining home ownership but with home ownership over the long term; that means not only evaluating their ability to afford monthly mortgage payments but to afford paying their cost of living expenses like utility, grocery and phone bills,".

Most of the Hannon's income has gone towards Brandie's husbands medical expenses. He's an amputee with type one diabetes now facing kidney failure. "When your medical bills are $25,000 a month it goes quickly. I am not willing to give up my fight against Wells Fargo because I feel we've shown that we can pay," said Hannon.

The Hannon's have created a YouTube video titled 'Wells Fargo Eviction Nightmare. They're hoping people will see their story and reach out to Wells Fargo to support of the Hannons.
