CARMEL, Calif- According to the CHP website, officers were investigating a fatal accident on Highway 1 at Flanders Drive, near Carmel High School.
The accident was reported to CHP around 7:30 a.m. and involved a pedestrian.
Statement from Carmel High School:
We regret to inform you that one of our students was involved in a serious accident this morning on Highway 1 while traveling to Carmel High School. An adult pedestrian crossed the highway north of Ocean Avenue and was struck by the student's vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to CHOMP but, sadly, did not survive. At this time, we do not know the identity of the pedestrian.
Our student is uninjured but, understandably, is shaken and distressed. She is with family and friends who are attending to her and providing comfort. Please be assured that the CHS community will also provide every means of assistance when she returns to school. If you are aware of anyone who needs support, please inform one of our counselors.
We extend our sympathy to the family of the pedestrian and all others who are affected by this tragedy.
