Candlelight Vigil for Sierra LaMar

Posted: Updated:

Morgan Hill, Calif. -- A candlelight vigil will be held Wednesday for missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar.

Nearly half a year after Sierra disappeared, the community is coming together for the first "Light the Night for Sierra," where guests will light candles and pray for Sierra LaMar's return home.

The vigil will be at Morgan Hill City Hall at 17575 Peak Avenue. Organizers say lights will be arranged to spell out a message to Sierra to help find her.

LED votive candles will be on sale throughout the day Wednesday at the Sierra Search Center at Burnett Elementary School. Candles will be five dollars, and will include a white bag filled with sand to be used in the ceremony. All proceeds will go to the Sierra LaMar fund.

Sierra was taken on March 16, on her way to school. Prosecutors have charged 21-year old Antolin Garcia-Torres with her kidnap and murder, though the teen's body has never been found.

Prosecutors say DNA evidence in Garcia-Torres' car links him to the girl, though their exact relationship or a motive for the abduction has never been revealed. Garcia-Torres has pleaded not-guilty.
