MONTEREY, Calif. - The Monterey County Fair wrapped up for the year last night after gates closed. But not before fair officials say it was a blast and that it was another successful year on paper.
Kelly Violini, CEO of Monterey County Fair, says numbers are not official, but in comparison to last year, they are much higher in some categories.
She says some of the new ideas can be credited for that.
"Our newest promotion that we have done is the Dollar Day and that worked out really well for us. On a day that typically would be slow attendance and we had a packed midway on Thursday," said Violini.
In 2011, attendance was more than 73,000 people and this year it could be even more than that.
As for others that make a living on successful years, Country Fair Cinnamon Rolls', Erin Dale-Magdaleno ranks the Monterey County Fair near the top.
"The fair is wonderful, this is a great venue. The location is ideal and the weather is beautiful. They do a great job of making it fun and festive. There's lots of stuff for kids to do here," said Dale-Magdelno.
The group works more than 40 fairs in the state of California during the season and they said they look forward to coming back each year.
