Local Democrats Heading to National Convention

Posted: Updated:

MONTEREY, Calif. -- It's another week full of politics! Democratic leaders are gearing up for their 2012 National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We spoke with local delegates who have just landed in Charlotte.

More than 600 delegates will be visiting from California including 8 delegates from Monterey County, its the most they've ever sent! There are also 2 delegates from Santa Cruz, one from San Benito and an alternate. They're getting ready for their week that's chock full of events... Starting off tonight with opening ceremonies.

"The Democratic party is moving this country forward. All of us saw last week in Tampa the Republican party is just going back to the 50s. I was born in the 1950s and I was an infant and I'm not going back," said Shawn Bagley.

It's going to be quite a lineup of speeches throughout the convention. First Lady Michelle Obama will address the crowd on Tuesday. On Wednesday former president Bill Clinton will speak, followed by the vice president and president's address on Thursday.
