16 Year Old Uses Youtube to Claim Sexual Abuse by Father

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. - A 16 year old who's been in hiding for more than a year, claiming he was abused by his father talked exclusively by phone with Central Coast News.

The boy says the Youtube videos are cries for help to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office.

The video shows Damon Moelter saying "My father told me not to tell anyone, since it was supposed to be our secret."

A chilling statement from the 16 year old, accusing his father Eric Moelter of sexually abusing him for more than a decade.

Damon says the abuse started in Monterey County and continued in San Diego County, among many other places.

Last September, after an investigation into claims of abuse by Damon and his mom, a judge ruled there wasn't enough evidence to support the claims.

"I disclosed abuse when I was 6 years old and for ten years they have done nothing to protect me," Damon told Central Coast News.

But online, his dad paints a different picture, writing Damon's mom took him and ran off.

Friday, Damon tells us, that's not true and he ran away.  Now he has two goals, "One is to get a protective order so that I can come out of hiding. The second is to get my dad off the streets because I think it's probable that he's abusing someone else right now."

The district attorney's office says that's not enough to press charges.

It says Damon needs to sit down with an attorney in person for them to start investigating his claims.

"We pursue child molestations but we also prosecute and return children in child abduction cases. So this case is kind of the Gordian knot of how we carry out both functions and make sure justice is done all the way around," said Terry Spitz.

Damon says he doesn't feel safe coming out of hiding, "I can't contact them, I can't come in, until I'm protected because it's far too dangerous for me."

Monterey County attorney Terry Spitz says it's a very complicated situation and they're working with Damon's attorney to move forward.

"We're gonna have to review court orders and there will probably be some delicate negotiations to figure out how we're going to carry out the functions under the law in both types of cases."
