Barter Trend Popular In Santa Cruz

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.- Gone are the days of paying for new things or services, when now you can just trade or barter. There are hundreds of posts on Craigslist, all of them looking for things to trade.

And Sheri Alejandro took advantage of this growing trend. She trades baby stuff. Her store Jelly Beanz in Santa Cruz trades you clothes, books and toys for anything in the store your little one needs. At no cost.

"I think a lot of people are starting to use trading as a way to balance their budget," said Sheri.

Devin Gott couldn't agree anymore. Devin posted a barter on Craigslist, he is looking to trade his chop saw for a table saw. And this wasn't the first time he trades goods. "Everything I put up I have been able to trade," said Devin.

Devin is not alone. Hundreds go on Craigslist to trade something. One guy is looking to trade surfing lessons, for what in return? Anything unique.

Sheri said this trend is not going anywhere. Since she started her business her trading customers has grown to thousands. And she thinks bartering is not only cost effective but environmentally friendly.

"People are conscious of the fact that they want to reuse, recycle and I think that this really fills that niche," said Sheri.
