WATSONVILLE, Calif- Shortly after 8 a.m. a Watsonville police officer saw a man who was wanted by the department. After a chase through the city and a false 911 call, police were able to arrest Jose Fernandez.
The officer first saw Fernandez driving in the area of Freedom Blvd and Crestview Drive. The officer tried to pull him over but he just kept on driving, said police.
Officers followed Fernandez thoughout the city streets of Watsonville at a "low to moderate rate of speed", said police. The chase even went through some stawberry field on Atkinson Lane. After the driver left the field he hit a dead end on Blanca Lane. Not to be deterred by the cops following close behind, the suspect jumped out of the car and ran into the Corralitos Creek area.
Corporal Ed Delfin and Officer Jarrod Pisturino chased Fernandez over fences and through the brush where they found him near the creek. According to Watsonville police, in order to take Fernandez into custody, they had to use a taser.
According to police, sometime during the chase, Fernandez called in a false report of a shooting in to try and help his chances of evading the police
