MARINA, Calif- A 19 year old from Seaside who was shot in the parking lot of the Monterey County Marina Health Clinic is expected to be okay, said his family. Police are still investigating the shooting that happened Thursday afternoon around 1:00 p.m. Only the 19 year-old was injured.
The suspect was seen driving North on de Forest Road driving a black Mitsubishi. Operation ROPE was in place to help catch the suspect. During Operation ROPE officers are placed at all of the exits on the Highway to look for the suspect's car.
A family member told Central Coast News that the victim was at the clinic with is wife who is 8-months pregnant. Police say the victim and his wife were confronted by the suspect as they were leaving. That is when the suspect shot the victim.
Both the victim and the suspect are in their late teens or early 20's, said police. At this time officers do not know if this is gang related but they are treating it as a gang shooting until they learn otherwise, said police. According to his family, the victim is not in a gang.
The health clinic will remain closed on Friday. Patients who have scheduled appointments are encouraged to call the Seaside clinic at 831-899-8121 to reschedule. The Seaside clinic is making extra resources available to meet the needs of the Marina patients.
