State Issues Bill for Fire Prevention Services, Check to See If You Have to Pay

Posted: Updated:

CALIFORNIA, Calif- Thanks to a bill that was signed into law in July some Californians will have to pay for fire prevention services.

Those people who live in the State Responsibility Area for fire protection will have to pay the state $150 dollars.

According to the state and CALFIRE, the fee will fund a variety of important fire prevention services. Some of those services are:

  • brush clearance
  • fire break construction
  • defensible space inspections
  • fire prevention engineering
  • emergency evacuation planning
  • fire prevention education
  • fire hazard severity mapping
  • fire related law enforcement and implementation of the State Fire Plan

So who has to pay the fee? According to CALFIRE, if you own a "habitable structure" in the SRA you need to pay up. To confirm if you live within the SRA, visit the Fire Prevention Fee website at www.FirePreventionFee.org/SRAviewer
