MONTEREY, Calif- One of the most important things during a busy weekend like one where hundreds of classic cars are coming to town, is to make sure they're safe and security is tight.
Marketing Director Stephanie Quinn told Central Coast News this is the first time in 12 years that Russo and Steele has held an auction open to the public. They're expecting thousands more to show up to see more than 200 cars down on the Monterey Wharf. "We've got the fencing and we have a very good security team and lots of security at night," said Quinn.
Security is extra tight because there's lots of expensive cars in the lot. "We have everything from Ferraris to Cobras to Aston Martins," said Quinn.
Some are worth millions of dollars car owners need extra protection. That's why in some lots you may see as many as a dozen security officers, some you may recognize. Auctioneers hire local off duty police officers for the weekend. "We're really looking forward to a swell in attendance," said Quinn.
Its amazing, Central Coast police said there haven't been major issues with any of these classic cars getting into accidents, scratched or stolen. However, it's something no one wants to take a chance on. "If you've got original paint it's really hard to say it's original paint if you have to get it repainted for a scratch. So it's extremely important for us to take care," said Quinn.
