CASTROVILLE, Calif. -- More People Using Electric Car Charge Stations. With gas prices going up to almost $4.50 by Labor Day more people seem to be moving towards electric cars.
We talked with group members of the Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance. They've helped put in more than 23 electric car stations in San Benito, Monterey and Santa Cruz County. Now they're looking into putting in 50 more.
We also found out more people are actually starting to use these public charging stations. In Santa Cruz public charge stations are used eight hours a day on a regular basis. "Driving an all electric car versus driving an all gasoline car can save hundreds and hundreds of dollars in cost to them," said Founder Sharon Sarris.
More than $700,000 in matched funds is being used in state and federal funds to create more electric car charge stations along the Central Coast.
Now the Monterey County Vehicle Alliance is still looking for a few more places to put the stations.
