Homicide 10 Years Ago; Family Still Looking for Closure

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. -- Homicide 10 Years Ago; Family Still Looking for Closure. On August 2002, 24 year old Loretta Paluszynski was brutally murdered in her apartment on Heather Circle in Salinas. The killer is still on the loose and police believe he is in Mexico.

The scene was one of the most brutal crimes the Salinas Police Department has ever seen. Since the crime was so bad her two children were put into protective custody.

We spoke with the family who has lived with no closure for the past 10 years. Now they're asking for justice because they say police know who killed Loretta. "He's ruined the children's lives he's ruined his own life and for what," said Paluszynski.

10 years later  the children's whereabouts are still unknown, and Loretta's family wants answers. We talked with several family members who said  that even ten years later they still get chills knowing that Lori was brutally murdered and the case still hasn't been solved.  "I still wake up thinking is this guy ever going to get caught. What's happening now? Is anybody looking for him," said Paluszynski.

An urn is all that Frank Paluszynski has left of his younger sister. For the past 10 years it's been a nightmare also not knowing where her kids Junior and baby Abigail were placed. Not having the answers is tearing the family up.

After Lori was killed her two children were placed in a witness protection program somewhere in the U.S. "We don't know what their name is we don't know if the last names have been changed to protect them. We constantly wonder how they're doing," said Paluszynski.

The last Salinas Police heard of Juan Nunez was 10 years ago. He has a lengthy criminal history including domestic abuse. "Juan Nunez has been in Mexico for quite some time and we have been trying to work with the Mexican authorities but because of the extradition complications we have not been able to locate this individual," said Officer Miguel Cabrera.

So now the family waits in agony with hope that someday they can bring justice to this family and hopefully be reunited with Loretta's children. "In the meantime it's just a waiting game. I'll wait another 15 to 20 more years just to get a chance to see my niece and nephew," said Paluszynski.
