Mother of Alleged Kidnapping Son in Court

SALINAS, Calif. -- Mother of Alleged Kidnapping Son in Court. The mother of Juan Manuel Salazar, the boyfriend accused of kidnapping 16-year-old San Ardo teen Eunice Serrato was arraigned this afternoon.

The 36-year-old mother was charged with one felony count of child endangerment and one misdemeanor count of obstructing a peace officer.

In a bizarre twist to the statewide Amber Alert her attorney, Eugene Martinez told Central Coast news that both Eunice and her boyfriend were already in Mexico for a few days and that Rodriguez played a part in bringing the two back to the U.S. "We obtained and retained a private investigator who traveled there and she cooperated to a degree and those kids came across safely and soundly at the Tijuana border about 14 hours after my client was contacted by police," said Martinez.

On Thursday Rodriguez's attorney asked to reduce her bail, which was set at $50,000. The judge denied the request because they believe Rodriguez could be a flight risk.
