MONTEREY - An explosives team called out to a neighborhood on the central coast after a bomb scare forced people out of their homes.
A man said he was cleaning out his home on Estrella Avenue in Monterey after his tenant moved out.
Aside from all a big mess, including a broken sink and other junk, he found a pipe with caps on it that looked suspicious.
Monterey Police didn't want to take any chances, so officers called out the county bomb squad to investigate it.
Neighbors who didn't want to release their identity said the tenant was a disgruntled tenant who was upset he had to move out.
"I knew exactly what was going on because there's a crazy guy that lives up there," said one neighbor, who asked not to air his name. "At least twice a week he's out in the streets crying, banging on people's doors, saying his girlfriend beat him up."
Neighbors who live by the triplex said they're relieved the pipe didn't turn out to be anything dangerous and hope they can finally get peace in the neighborhood.
The homeowner said the tenant was only living in the unit for about four months before he was evicted.
