AROMAS, Calif.- A small town in the Central Coast met tonight to discuss a big topic. "I'm very confused, passionate, a little irritated and indignant," said Maureen Cain from Aromas.
Maureen is not alone. More than a hundred Aromas residents came together to educate themselves over what to do if large amounts of oil deposits are found beneath the town. " A lot of people are kinda curious about what is someone did offer money? Would I turn it down? But as a community we need to stick together," said Maureen.
Three panelists answered questions and concerns from the public. Questions ranged from water quality and quantity to what to do if they get a call from an oil company. But mostly the meeting was to secure safeguards. Meeting organizers hope to create task forces within the community to preserve their water, air and small town charm.
"We're very concerned about our rural community. Its very peaceful here, we don't want a lot of big oil trucks. That's a big change."
