Police: Body Found in Refrigeration Trailer Could Have Been There for Years

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif.- A body was found in an old refrigeration trailer Monday morning when crews began to break it down for scrap parts in Spreckels.

Salinas police got the call that workers found a body in a trailer that was being stored at the Salinas Sports Complex. They body was found when the trailer was hauled to Henningsen Construction Co. at 12 Spreckels Lane to tear it down and salvage any scrap pieces.

According to police, the victim had been living inside the trailer for a while. Police also think that the victim had the only set of keys to the trailer. Evidence found in the trailer showed that the victim would lock the trailer from the inside with padlocks and chains while he was using it as a home.

Investigators believe that there is a strong possibility that the victim locked himself inside and committed suicide. However, the body is so badly decomposed that the cause of death can not be determined until the autopsy is completed.

Based on the state of decomposition, police say the body could have been in the trailer anywhere from a few months to a few years.
