CORRALITOS, Calif. -- "There's no sense in hiding. Just do what is right son. No one is going to hurt you. No one's going to hurt you anymore."
A mother's plea for her son to do the right thing. Victoria Rivera showed up to Varni Road in Corralitos to get her son to surrender to police.
It started as a simple code compliance around noon. The home has had problems with squatters in the past and police came to make sure no one was on the property, but thats when things took a turn.
"When we showed up there was a lady sitting in the vehicle and a man sitting out of the vehicle with a pair of handcuffs on his waist. The Sergeant tried to talk to him, he got confrontational, and ran into the house," said April Skalland, Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department.
That man was 45 year old Sal Escalante. Since Escalante has a history of violence with police, more units were called. Police blocked the perimeter around the property but it was too big to keep Escalante from escaping. The property cover about a half acre of land with dozens of building and options for Escalante to escape.
Once police recieved a search warrant and entered the house, Escalante was no where to be found. Police are still searching for the suspect.
