Salinas Women Seeks Justice After Her Purse is Stolen

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. - One victim did not wait around for Salinas police after she reported her  purse stolen.

Officers say the 22-year-old woman reported the theft to police on Friday after she left it behind at the check cashing store she was at in east Salinas.

"The victim was cashing a check and she forgot her purse, subsequently she comes back to find out her purse was gone," said Miguel Cabrera.

Instead of waiting for Salinas police to investigate, she took justice into her own hands.

"When the victim returned to the shop yesterday, she noticed her missing purse on the arm of another lady."

And it was not an employee but a customer, 38 year old Claudia Arias, was brave enough to go back to the same store with the stolen purse.

"After the victim confronted the suspect, they got into an altercation. Based on all the statements and the purse still contained property from when the purse was stolen," said Cabrera.

Police showed up before the fight got worse and the purse was returned to the victim.

"Its best that citizens serve as good witnesses and provide us with all the information they can and let us do the rest," explained Cabrera.
