LAGUNA SECA, Calif. - Its a weekend fans look forward to each year, but still locals beware.
Thousands of motorcycles, campers and cars fill local streets that were not designed to handle this much traffic.
"It gets impacted. If the roads were big enough to handle this all the time then it would be empty most of the time. But its part of life, living in one of the best places in the world," said Randy Leonard.
Leonard and his family have been coming to races at Laguna Seca longer than they can remember. He even compared it to their family Thanksgiving.
"We have been coming here since our kids were wee and tiny, and now my youngest is 23."
Leonard spent four days building a house this is solar powered in the bed of his truck for he and his wife to sleep in this weekend. All of that, just to beat the traffic.
Its only a 30 minute drive to the race on a normal day but this weekend traffic moves slow through much of the area along Highway 1 and Highway 68 in both directions.
But Leonard says people should not let it affect the attitude toward the weekend.
"It impacts you whether you dislike or love motorcycles. The restaurants are packed tonight. And we may be upset because traffic is a little slow, bikes are a little fast. But its what makes Monterey livable," Leonard said.
