International Media Attention for 113 Dead Kittens Found in Seaside Home

Posted: Updated:

SEASIDE, Calif- Most of the 51 cats that were rescued from two homes in Seaside are resting comfortably at the SPCA and receiving lots of loving care, said the Monterey County SPCA. However, two of the cats were rushed into emergency surgery but are now in recovery.

According to the SPCA, the 51 rescued cats are suffering from upper respiratory infections, parasites, dental disease, and general lack of care from being kept in deplorable conditions.

Humane officers found the cats in two Seaside homes Wednesday afternoon. Officers also made the gruesome discovery of 113 dead kittens at the same two homes. At this point veterinarians are still trying to determine how all the kittens died. They do say it is strange that in a horde of this many cats that none of them are kittens.

At this time authorities are not releasing where in the city that these cats were found because they are still investigating the case. The SPCA did receive reports that the people who had the 51 cats were taking people's cats from around the area.

Several national news agencies have contacted the Monterey County SPCA when news of the 113 dead kittens hit the Internet. According to Beth Brookhouser, this story has reached audiences in India, London, and Toronto.

The SPCA for Monterey County says you can help the rescued cats by sharing this story or you can donate to the Monterey County SPCA.
