SEASIDE, Calif- Officers found 113 dead kittens at two houses in Seaside. Officers also rescued 51 adult cats from the homes and they say it is strange that all the kittens were dead.
When Monterey County SPCA Humane Officers got the call of animal neglect at a home in Seaside, they had no idea the extent of the nightmare they would find inside. "The amount of experience and training that you have, it still never really prepares you for the things that you see. To walk into that is quite shocking," said Humane Officer Stacey Sanders.
SPCA humane officers and staff veterinarians are still examining the remains to try and determine the cause of death, said the Monterey County SPCA. Originally they though there were only 75 dead kittens but after further investigation the raised that number to 113.
The SPCA says it has received reports that some of the cats may have been taken from around the area, so there could be owners looking for them. If you are missing a cat please contact the SPCA with a photograph of your missing cat.
Most of the rescued cats are being treated for upper respiratory infections, parasites, and dental disease.
To learn how you can help, put your name on a list of potential adopters, or report animal cruelty, please contact The SPCA at 831-373-2631 or find them online at www.SPCAmc.org.
