SALINAS, Calif- People have reported that they got an email from the Salinas Police Department that they had won a $1000 Visa gift card. So is it real? The short answer is no.

Police say this is an e-mail scam and they are not giving out gift cards.

According to Salinas Police Spokesperson Miguel Cabrera, the e-mail directs you to a specific e-mail address where you can claim your "gift". Then scammers try to get your personal information.

Police say if you get this email you should immediately delete it.
