SEASIDE - New information on a string of burglaries in Seaside.
Seaside Police said at least 50 homes were burglarized in the last three months.
And now, officers arrested six people linked to several of those cases.
"The burglars realize a lot of families in Seaside are working families. They wait until they leave for work and that's when they'll knock on the door, see if they receive a response," said Sgt. Bruno Dias with Seaside Police.
If they don't, Dias said that's when they creep through your window or backyard.
Just last month, Central Coast News told you thieves are casing places for the right opportunity to strike Seaside homes.
"Part of the reason is the price of precious metals," Dias said. "They're stealing gold and silver."
It's nothing new to Keven Pedersen, who owns Salinas Pawn.
"If they (burglars) broke into a house, a ring they stole before that would maybe bring them 50 bucks is now bringing them three, four times that," he said.
About a year ago, thieves tried selling stolen jewelry to him.
"They were breaking into houses and selling jewelry from Gilroy all the way down to King City," Pedersen said.
Now Pedersen takes extra precautions.
The pawn shop requires every customer to provide a valid ID, two signatures and a thumb print and said even with all that it could be hard to catch the bad guys.
Salinas Pawn even caught me on one of its 30 cameras.
"We go a long ways to protect ourselves, but also to cover anything that we need to do from the police department," Pedersen said.
Seaside Police said they will be sending out more patrols, but they need you to look out for your neighbors.
