SACRAMENTO, Calif- Governor Brown signed a bill to help fund the California High Speed rail system. Brown says it will create thousands of new jobs in California but others worry about where about the money will come from.
According to Governor Brown the high speed rail project will bring much needed jobs to the state. "This legislation will help put thousands of people in California back to work," said Governor Brown. "By improving regional transportation systems, we are investing in the future of our state and making California a better place to live and work."
Including matching federal and local funds, SB 1029 ensures approximately $3.6 billion of economic investment in Northern California, $2.8 billion in Southern California and $6 billion in the Central Valley.
However, Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) worries about the rest of the funding, "The Governor has identified the total cost for the High Speed Rail at $68 Billion Dollars. We've only identified funding for $12 Billion dollars."
