Two Teens Arrested, One Cited After Short Pursuit

Watsonville, Calif. - Police arrested two teens and cited another in Watsonville Thursday after the teens led officers on a short pursuit, then crashed into a parked car.

This began when police were dispatched to the area of Pennsylvania Avenue after hearing reports of gunshots being fired from a vehicle.

Police say they saw the vehicle run a stop sign near Anna Street and Technology Drive, and attempted to stop the vehicle for a code violation in the parking lot of Watsonville Community Hospital.

That's when, police say, the driver failed to comply and one of the passengers of the vehicle got out and fled on foot through a heavily brushed field near the hospital. Police later located and arrested the suspect.

Then, police say, the driver of the vehicle fled the hospital and led officers on a pursuit to Green Valley Road and Main Street. Officers say the vehicle turned into the Square Shopping Center parking lot where it collided with another car. That's when two suspects inside the car fled on foot.

Police arrested the two suspects, 19-year old Ernesto Murillo and 18-year old Merino Zarate. The third suspect who fled on foot, a 14-year old male, was cited and released to his parents.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing, and it has not been determined if the suspects arrested and their vehicle are connected to the shooting at Pennsylvania Avenue.
