Salinas Man Found in Closet After Hit-and-Run Accident

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif - Salinas Police found a hit and run suspect hiding in a closet Thursday morning.

According to Salinas Police, around 9:00 Thursday morning Luis Robledo Jr., 20, was driving eastbound on John Street near Tulip in the number one  lane at a high rate of speed. A slower moving vehicle was directly in front of him along with a vehicle in the number two  lane. Officers say Robledo accelerated even more and tried to slip between the two vehicles, clipping the vehicle in the number two lane causing it to crash.  The driver of the second vehicle identified as Orlando Esparza, 22, received injuries.

As a result of the collision, Robledo's vehicle struck a parked vehicle launching it 25 feet from the street to a driveway in front of a residence.

Esparza was driving on a suspended license and had no insurance. Esparza's vehicle was towed and he was cited.

Robledo ran from the scene, but officers tracked him to the 500 block of San Benito Street where his girlfriend lives hiding in a closet. Robledo  is on felony probation for domestic violence and has been served with a criminal protective order to stay away from his girlfriend.

Robledo was booked for felony hit and run, violation of court order, probation violation and possession of marijuana found in his pocket when arrested.
